Senate launches inquiry into EPBC Act

The ability of federal laws to protect our natural environment from ongoing destruction has come under the spotlight with the announcement of a Senate inquiry into the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.

The inquiry will investigate how well Australia has responded to key environmental threats including ongoing land-clearing, invasive species and climate change.

Victorian grasslands listed as critically endangered

The native grasslands of Victoria’s Volcanic Plain have been listed as critically endangered under the Federal Government’s Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.

The listing was made effective on June 21 this year and is a recognition of just how close Victoria’s grasslands are to being lost forever.

Green Paper submission period closes

The period for submissions to the State Government's Land and Biodiversity at a Time of Climate Change Green Paper has closed.

It's believed that close to 1000 submissions have been made to the Green Paper, which was launched in April by environment minister Gavin Jennings at the Grow West site in Bacchus Marsh.
